Bonnaroo 2014 | Elton John, Kanye West, Jack White, Flaming Lips et plus
Le festival musical américain Bonnaroo dévoilait à son tour sa programmation en vue de l’édition 2014. L’événement de Manchester (au Tennessee) a réussi à rallier de grands noms actuels tels que Kanye West (qui était pourtant persona non grata à Bonnaroo depuis le fiasco de 2008), Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Flaming Lips ainsi que des légendes de la trempe de Lionel Richie et Elton John.
L’annonce a été faite ce mercredi soir, lors d’une présentation vidéo diffusée en direct sur le web.
En plus des noms ci-haut mentionnés, soulignons la présence de Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kaskade, Damon Albarn (de Blur et Gorillaz), James Blake, Skrillex, Phoenix, Arctic Monkeys, Janelle Monáe, Frank Ocean, Neutral Milk Hotel et Wiz Khalifa.
S’y produiront également Disclosure, Cut Copy, Ice Cube (!), Chromeo, Cake, The Head and the Heart, Broken Bells, Zedd, Ms. Lauryn Hill, The Avett Brothers, Grouplove, Die Antwoord, Cage the Elephant, Mastodon et Jake Bugg.
Le retour de Kanye West
Plusieurs remarqueront avec surprise le retour de Kanye West à Bonnaroo, six ans après la controverse de sa dernière participation au festival.
En 2008, Kanye West avait débuté son set avec plusieurs heures de retour, avait donné un spectacle décrit par plusieurs comme carrément médiocre, et avait carrément blâmé, sur la place publique, les organisateurs du festival.
Interrogé à ce propos par le site JamBands.com, le co-fondateur de Superfly (qui est derrière Bonnaroo), Rick Farman, donne l’explication suivante :
« First and foremost, we think Kanye is one of the most prolific and groundbreaking artists of this generation. (…) He’s hugely influential. His albums are as great and as acclaimed as they get. He’s also a great live performer. He takes a lot of chances and he’s adventurous with the live space. All those things are what Bonnaroo performers are about. That’s why we booked him [in 2008]. »
« Everyone has moved on–it’s in the past. We’re happy he wants to come back to Bonnaroo and is embracing this. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to look forward, and we think it’s a great opportunity for the Bonnaroo community to show what it’s made of. It goes back to what Bonnaroo stands for: It’s about having good time, radiating positivity and that whole message. We couldn’t be more excited about what we think has the potential to be another historic Bonnaroo moment. »
Bonnaroo se tiendra du 12 au 15 juin 2014, à Manchester, dans l’État du Tennessee. En tout, plus de 150 groupes se produiront sur plus de 10 scènes.
Les billets tombent en vente le samedi 22 février à midi.
